HEEM seated in studio surrounded by black-and-grey figurative artworks

HEEM is the artist name of Toronto-based visual artist Latrell Raheem Taylor.

His practice began with drawing and portraiture and has expanded into spray paint, canvas, found objects, murals, and tattooing. A long-standing interest in anatomy and Renaissance figure study informs the structure, precision, and physical presence of the work.

Across surfaces, HEEM returns to the human figure as a way to explore intimacy, tension, vulnerability, concealment, observation, and connection. The palette is often restrained; the emotional reading is not.

MEANT TO BE FELT.

Rather than prescribing one fixed meaning, the work leaves room for the viewer to bring their own experience to it.
